I am very excited to be working with Xavier and Rachel at Atelier Clos Mirabel to bring you a lovely opportunity to take part in a creative retreat with me. You will be accommodated in a gorgeous 18th Century Manor House set in the stunning south west of France overlooked by the magnificent Pyrénées mountains. It is an oasis of calm, beauty and tranquillity. Having been a student myself on a course there I can unequivocally say how cared for and inspired I felt in this environment.
In this setting we will explore and collect natural resources to create our own handmade paper and keepsakes. We will harness our senses through drawing and mark making techniques to capture the essence of our surroundings and develop this along side our paper making combining the two into some beautiful treasured outcomes. I will also share with you simple ways of making ink from our environment.
We will spend a relaxed week soaking in the beautiful scenery and gardens at Atelier Clos Mirabel, eating delicious local and lovingly prepared food, while creating keepsakes from our own handmade papers and mark making experiments. No previous experience is necessary, I will gently guide you through each process. We have the luxury of working together for five days which is a wonderful amount of time to develop your skills, and create something beautiful and very personal to you.
If you are looking for something a little different in your creative journey this workshop could be exactly the thing for you. It will gently challenge notions of drawing by taking you through exercises to simply make a range of marks. These marks can be developed through collage into small book objects exploring a number of folding techniques and combined with our hand made paper to create something truly unique.
